5 CARD DRAWS info and estimates
Five-card draw is a poker variant that is the simplest and often the first variant learned by most players. Anyway it’s not popular in pro tournament.
Traditional poker has many variants. In U.S. they use standard 52-card, while in Europe the most common variant is played with the stripped deck: a deck depends on players, the cards in it will start from 11 minus players’ number (aces included, obviously)
The rules here below is for traditional poker in Italy, those might be little different somewhere else.
However (anywhere) each table uses to agree any specific rule before starting the game.
List of poker hands (in Europe, in ascending oreder)
High card A♥ K♠ 10♠ 8♦ 7♣ - The best hand is the one with the high card; when they’re pair second highest cards must be checked, and so on. Finally they check the suits.
NOTE: - While there is parity in Italy they use the "Come Quando Fuori Piove" rule (Cuori ♥, Quadri ♦, Fiori ♣, Picche ♠) and the player with the best suit will win. That’s not suppose to happen in other country worldwide, where suit rack might be different, and where sometimes they use to part the pot (never minding suits at all).
Pair K♣ J♥ 10♠ 10♥ 7♦ - Two cards with the same value; when there’s parity, they’ll check the other three card (still parity, suit check – as above).
Two pairs Q♣ Q♠ 9♦ 9♣ 8♥ - The highest pair win. In case of parity they’ll check the second pair, then the fifth card, and so on (as above).
Three of a kind A♦ J♥ J♣ J♠ 8♠ - Three cards, same value (obviously there can be no parity!)
Straight K♣ Q♥ J♠ 10♦ 9♥ - An increasing cards’ sequence (7,8,9,10,J or 10,J,Q,K,A) with different suits. The one with the highest card will win. Still parity, check the highest card suit (♥ ♦ ♣ ♠)
NOTE – An ace can stars a straight before the lowest card only (A♥ 7♣ 8♠ 9♦ 10♦ for 4 player 4), and so it can close that up (A♠ K♦ Q♣ J♥ 10♦). The first one is called "Broadway", second one "wheel"
Full house J♥ J♦ J♣ 6♠ 6♣ - Three of a kind and a pair. The highest “three” will win (JJJ,77 beats 999,AA).
Flush A♦ K♦ J♦ 9♦ 8♦ - 5 cards, same suit (not increasing). The highest card will win.
Four of a kind Q♥ Q♦ Q♣ Q♠ 7♣ - 4 cards, same kind.
Straight Flush K♠ Q♠ J♠ 10♠ 9♠ - A straight with a suit only
In U.S. when they get a “Broadway” Straight Flush they call Royal flush
NOTE:- Royal Flush is the best poker hand, but it could be not enough. In the extremely rare case there will be more than one Straight flush, a wheel will beat a Broadway, a middle will beat a wheel and a Broadway will beat a middle. Even if some(rare)time it happens, the players use to part the pot (not fair for European gamblers, that usually want one winner only)
Mind that in U.S. poker a full house beat a flush (that’s for the theory of probability, since they play 52 cards). In U.S. there’s no rule like the one above about straight flush: when parity, they part.
The game phase are:
- Pot: before the hand starts the dealer will “invite” the other players to put down their first bet.
- Open
- Card’s changing
- Bets
